Description

Productivity was the #1 challenge in clinical practice of attendees polled in our original Ethics and Professional Issues workshop (2015-2018). Many employers have productivity requirements for a profitable business model, however many clinicians feel this can conflict with their professional ethics for quality patient care. As a result of conflicting emotions and values, many clinicians in physical therapy and occupational therapy experience dissatisfaction, complacency, and burnout.

This new interactive, morning workshop is an ideal way to get your questions answered and your credit at the same time!

The PT Administrative Code of our Illinois Physical Therapy Act indicates that 3 hours of PT/PTA continuing education required for licensure renewal "must include content related to the ethical practice of physical therapy" and the Administrative Code of the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act indicates "in each renewal period, one contact hour shall include a course in ethics".

• Definition of ethics and professionalism
• Definition of productivity and its relationship to volume, documentation, utilization of aides and other support staff
• Ethical service delivery and the PT/OT Codes of Ethics
• Productivity concerns that may conflict with professional ethics and contribute to burnout
• Overview of the RIPS model: Realm, Individual Process and Situation
• Discussion of scenarios related to productivity in patient care
• Incidence, signs, and symptoms of burnout in healthcare professionals
• Strategies to prevent and recover from burnout due to ethical challenges in the workplace
• Where to get answers and guidance
• Illinois Physical Therapy Act and Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act
• APTA Core Ethics Documents and other APTA resources (most do not require APTA membership)
• AOTA Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and other AOTA resources (most do not require AOTA membership)

Objectives

By the completion of the workshop the participant will be able to correctly:

1. Apply 3 sub-principles in the PT or OT Code of Ethics to the scenarios presented that relate to productivity in patient care.
2. Discuss 3 signs and/or symptoms of burnout common to healthcare professionals.
3. Describe the RIPS model.
4. Identify 2 factors that may contribute to productivity issues.

Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per session, is refunded if notice of cancellation is received more than 10 days in advance of the CE event. Cancellations made less than 10 days in advance of the CE event date forfeit the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual or another CE event, one time only. No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the CE event, or when handouts or other CE event materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
All unapplied transfers and credits will expire September 26, 2026.

Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the CE event up to one week prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the CE event tuition.
