This new comprehensive one day course provides a key foundation for evaluating common injuries and prescribing age-appropriate rehab and training for adolescents and children. Understanding the significant implications of injuries to the immature skeleton and important nutritional considerations, is vital to effective healing and return to function.

Objectives

By the completion of the course the participant will be able to:

1. Discuss nutritional requirements and common mistakes of the pre-adolescent and adolescent athlete vs. inactive children.
2. Provide basic nutritional recommendations to athletes in families with special diet restrictions.
3. Describe the mechanism of an overuse injury and the pathological effects in terms of the skeletal system, growth plates, and soft tissue.
4. Recognize the signs and symptoms and provide a treatment strategy of common pediatric orthopaedic injuries including osteochondral injuries.
5. Perform a thorough examination for the shoulder, scapulothoracic, and elbow joint of the over-head athlete with an emphasis on total range of motion concept, muscle strength, and other key tests.
6. Consider foundational components of a conditioning program including warm-up, dynamic and static stretching, core stability, and resistance training.
7. Develop and implement an age-appropriate resistance training program with regards to the exercise order and type, intensity, volume, rest, repetition velocity, training frequency, and progression.
8. Describe the concept of periodization and its benefit to training programs.

Brian Trembly has developed and taught a variety of continuing education courses for nearly 15 years. He graduated in 1999 with a master’s in physical therapy from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and earned a transitional doctorate in physical therapy in 2009 from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. Brian is recognized as a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). He also holds certifications in manual therapy by the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and soft tissue manual tool level 1 by Medical Minds in Motion. Brian currently works in private practice treating a variety of orthopaedic and sports conditions with an emphasis in manual therapy.

Cancellations:
Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per session, is refunded if notice of cancellation is received more than 10 days in advance of the CE event. Cancellations made less than 10 days in advance of the CE event date forfeit the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual or another CE event, one time only. No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the CE event, or when handouts or other CE event materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
All unapplied transfers and credits will expire September 26, 2026.

Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the CE event up to one week prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the CE event tuition.
