Description

Tai Chi has a wide variety of benefits that make it an excellent adjunct to traditional therapy interventions.  This evidence based lab course will teach you the foundations of Tai Chi and how to adapt the exercises for your patients.  Seated and standing Tai Chi exercises are included.  The benefits of Tai Chi will be discussed with a focus on mobility, pain, and functional independence.   No previous experience required, the majority of this course is spent learning Tai Chi moves.

• 8 basic and intermediate Tai Chi exercises

Objectives

By the completion of the course the participant will be able to:

1. Describe in a class discussion what makes Tai Chi a unique form of exercise.
2. Perform and instruct 4 basic and intermediate Tai Chi exercises.
3. Adapt 4 traditional Tai Chi movements for the needs of individual patients during class discussion of sample cases.
4. Discuss 3 evidence based benefits of Tai Chi.

Sarah is a doctor of physical therapy and Vice President of Clinical Strategies for HealthPRO-Heritage. She is responsible for development and implementation of a wide range of evidence based clinical programs for the entire continuity of care with a large focus on adapting to healthcare reform, improving outcomes and increased quality measures. She provides clinical field support to ensure successful application of clinical programming, outcome tracking, and marketability of programs while considering fiscal impact of new programs. She presents in-services and trainings to therapists, facilities, and regional teams, provides clinical support to ensure accurate tracking of outcome data and use of outcome measures. She is an expert in program development, evidence-based practice, outcome measure utilization and statistical analysis of data.

Sarah has taught evidence-based continuing education classes for nine years. Her clinical specialties are the spine, vestibular and balance disorders. She has treated older adults in outpatient, hospital and subacute rehabilitation settings. Sarah is McKenzie certified and is a certified yoga instructor. Sarah’s classes provide a holistic approach to evaluation and treatment and incorporate a variety of learning approaches.

This course is 8.0 CE contact hours (IL). We will have a 1/2 hour lunch and limited breaks.
We recommend that you bring a lunch -- a small refrigerator and microwave will be available at the Education and Training Center in Homer Glen!

Cancellations:
Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per session, is refunded if notice of cancellation is received more than 10 days in advance of the CE event. Cancellations made less than 10 days in advance of the CE event date forfeit the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual or another CE event, one time only. No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the CE event, or when handouts or other CE event materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
All unapplied transfers and credits will expire September 26, 2026.

Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the CE event up to one week prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the CE event tuition.
