Aquatic Therapy Basics

Presented by Rehab Connections

Description

This course presents important principles for aquatic exercise and introduces basic principles of the Pilates Method with application to aquatic therapy and core stabilization.

Lecture, demonstration, and lab practice in a SwimEx therapeutic pool will enable the physical therapy professional to experience and apply concepts related to the physical properties of water. This background will enable instruction of patients in water based exercises including principles based on the work of Joseph Pilates.

Emphasis will be on aquatic exercise progressions that can be safely and effectively performed in therapeutic pools, fitness club pools, and residential swimming pools.

Participants need to wear/bring appropriate swimming attire and shoe wear for the pool area. Participants should bring a towel and robe or other clothing for use between exercise sessions in the pool.

Note: You do not need to have a pool at your facility to use the information presented in this course.
