Description

This experiential course will focus on the coordination of modalities with therapeutic exercise programs and their use as an adjunct to musculoskeletal rehabilitation and ADL function to decrease muscle guarding and tissue congestion, assist muscle contraction, and facilitate improved connective tissue mobility.

The course will include a review of physical assessment as it relates to safe practice and indications, contraindications, and precautions for various modalities. This one-day course is ideal for anyone wanting a review or an update on utilization of numerous physical agents and electrotherapeutic modalities available to clinicians.

Objectives

At the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the physical principles of heat, cold, sound, and electricity in rehabilitation.
  2. Identify the indications and contraindications for use of heat, cold, sound, and electricity in rehabilitation.
  3. Apply modalities appropriately and safely relevant to treatment protocols.
  4. Prepare and position the patient for safe and effective use of physical agents and electrotherapeutic modalities, including assessment of skin integrity and sensation.
  5. Document modality interventions including treatment descriptions and outcomes.

Presenter

Carol Fawcett, PTA, MEd
Carol is the director of the physical therapist assistant program at Fox College in Tinley Park, IL. She has been a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since 1993, receiving her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Physical Therapy from Morton College. Carol also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Arts from the University of St. Francis and a Master's degree in Education with a specialization in Adult Education. Carol has worked in various outpatient orthopedic settings and has also practiced in home health. She has had a long-time involvement in PTA education holding positions as adjunct faculty at Morton College and also serving as coordinator for that program.

Cancellations:
Registration fee, less a $50 administration fee per session, is refunded if notice of cancellation is received more than 10 days in advance of the CE event. Cancellations made less than 10 days in advance of the CE event date forfeit the entire tuition fee. Tuition can be transferred to another individual or another CE event, one time only. No transfer, refund or credit will be given for cancellation 3 days or less before the CE event, or when handouts or other CE event materials are available electronically, including but not limited to emailed or downloadable pdf documents.
All unapplied transfers and credits will expire September 26, 2026.

Rehab Connections reserves the right to cancel the CE event up to one week prior to the CE event. Rehab Connections will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the CE event, other than the CE event tuition.
