Solutions in 6 Visits : Upper Quadrant

Presented by Rehab Connections

Description

Our cutting edge, innovative "Solutions" full day course returns in 2015! This new edition will focus on neck pain, adhesive capsulitis, and lateral epicondylitis - all in one day! We will highlight key components of initial examination and treatment approaches as they relate to practice guidelines from multiple sources. Relevant goals for functional limitations plus home programs including exercise progressions and self-care for pain will be emphasized. The format of this course will balance lecture and ample hands-on lab for an engaging, fast-moving day with plenty of resources and experiential learning.

Treatment strategies will emphasize posture, mobility, and stability with multiple functional tests, a practical hands-on approach to simplify treatment, and methods to maximize patient compliance. Manual therapy will focus on effective techniques to specific structures with therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education to enhance the technique and sustain the beneficial results.

—————————————

We know 6 visits may not be sufficient for all patients, however for many who are motivated and compliant, a streamlined approach can provide optimal functional outcomes with high patient satisfaction. And when improvement is documented and continued skilled intervention is medically necessary, additional visits may follow! With this course you will feel confident that your approach will provide quality patient care, even in challenging utilization management situations or when patients ask to limit visits due to high copays.

    • National Guideline Clearinghouse, a free government website for patients, consumers, and professionals
  3. Key information to target during the upper quadrant initial examination
    • Outcome measures that are recommended based on strong evidence
    • Tissue irritability and which interventions would be most appropriate
    • Precipitating and perpetuating factors including muscle imbalances and ADL
  4. Determining AND documenting medical necessity
    • Therapeutic interventions that can't be replicated with a home program
    • Sample functional goal templates
    • How to demonstrate improvement every session
  5. Samples of 6 visit plans of care that can be applied to similar diagnosis categories
  6. Lab sessions:
    • "Sensational 7" of manual therapy techniques for 1st rib dysfunction, neck and shoulder stiffness, and painful soft tissues
    • Focused, efficient home program progressions based on tissue irritability
    • Postural training to address the influence of head, scapula, and upper thoracic spine on the entire upper extremity
    • Specific neuromuscular re-education to address TMJ involvement and motor control imbalances at the shoulder girdle
    • Key motions that are needed to restore function and associated therapeutic movement patterns that gain ROM without aggravating symptoms
    • Self-care products for pain relief, soft tissue mobilization, and ROM/stretching
    • Low load prolonged stretching, yin yoga, total end range time, and other approaches for changing connective tissue extensibility
